Nomad Est. 2000 officially announces the launch of a bold $200 million pan-African film and television franchise, designed to revolutionize global perceptions of African storytelling. Led by Cameroonian-American filmmaker Karl Talla, the project will unfold in four strategic phases over the next ten years, combining original scripted content with education and infrastructure development.
The ambitious initiative will span multiple African nations, with Cameroon as the central production base, and satellite operations in Burkina Faso, Senegal, South Africa, and Kenya. A cornerstone of the initiative is the development of a 300-acre film studio and the ADO Academy—a talent incubator for young creatives across cinema, healthcare, and music.
Karl Talla, best known for his memoir Once Upon a Time in America: The True Tale of an Immigrant and the feature film Caller ID: Unknown (2023)—a powerful social drama that tackled the Anglophone Crisis, technology, and identity—is now leveraging his deep roots in the African diaspora and U.S. creative industries to build a transcontinental, sustainable content ecosystem. His book and films alike explore identity, migration, and resilience — themes that underpin much of the upcoming slate.

“Technology and social media have turned the world into a small village. The success of Black Panther, Crazy Rich Asians, and Squid Game proves that people everywhere will tune in—regardless of how niche a film or show is,” said Talla. “We believe African stories must not only be told—but owned, funded, and globally distributed by African and diaspora voices. This project is about reclaiming our narrative, training our youth, and building long-term infrastructure that will outlive any single film. As for the $200 million price tag—that’s what some Hollywood studios spend to market one movie.”
The $200 million franchise will roll out in four phases. Phase 1, budgeted at $25 million, will launch the first wave of projects; including a four-season political drama exploring corruption and resistance.
Nomad Est. 2000 is currently in discussions with CRTV and Cameroon’s Ministry of Arts and Culture to serve as co-producers on the franchise, with the goal of distributing these projects on Netflix, Amazon Prime, BET+, Canal+, and other major global platforms.
The initiative is projected to create thousands of jobs for local talent, technicians, and creatives—while also attracting Hollywood actors, writers, and post-production professionals to collaborate on African soil.
